January Challenge (Pescetarianism)

By Emily McLaughlin

Like I mentioned in my post, 2013 Resolutions, goals and aspirations, I will be challenging myself monthly. Instead of giving up or doing one certain challenge for the entire year, I’m going to switch it up every month to challenge my will-power and keep things interesting. (Giving up chocolate for a month is tentatively on the list… someone please talk me out of it.)

My January Challenge is… to follow a pescetarian diet!

January challenge

On New Year’s day I refrained from eating any meat except for fish, which I consumed during a traditional Japanese New Year’s meal.

photoI’ve always considered becoming either of vegetarian or pescetarian since I don’t eat meat regularly.  That’s not to say I don’t appreciate a juicy burger every now and then, but I typically opt for the turkey burger or veggie burger option anyways. A great bonus: few of my family members have adopted a pescetarian lifestyle, so the resources are there if I need them.

Throughout the month, I must remember to take my multivitamin every day to make sure I get enough iron, zinc and b-vitamins. January’s challenge shouldn’t bee too tricky for me but I fear I may run into some roadblocks when I eat out or am invited over to a friend’s house for dinner.

In other news…

I have a {Monday Motivator} segment planned for the year. These posts will feature other health/fitness bloggers from around the web to give you a boost at the beginning of the week. My intentions are to spread some love, share resources and giving you some more blogs to follow. Coming up in January, SHSH will be sharing about the Paleo diet and asking a couple bloggers, “Why do you run?” Look for the posts!

Lastly…

I have adhered to my 2013 goals/resolutions thus far by… flossing daily. ;)

Happy New Year, everyone!
